KBL Round 25: Seoul Knights beat Goyang by two after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 25 in the KBL took place in Seoul. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Goyang (16-16) to fourth ranked Seoul Knights (18-15) 82-80 in the game for the fourth place. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Goyang. Seoul Knights dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Goyang's 34 and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Goyang 37-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international Joon-Young Choi (200-1994) contributed with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Dedric Lawson (206-1997, college: Kansas) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds for Goyang. Goyang's coach Byong-Chul Kim tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 18-15 record. Goyang at the other side keeps the fifth position with 16 games lost. Seoul Knights are looking forward to face KoGas (#9) in Inchon in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Goyang will play on the road against Suwon KT (#8) in Busan and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
An interesting game for Mobis Phoebus (19-14) which hosted in Ulsan their biggest opponent LG Sakers (20-13). Third ranked Mobis Phoebus managed to get a 7-point victory 82-75. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of LG Sakers. American forward Gaige Prim (203-1999, college: Missouri St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Myeong-jin Seo chipped in 14 points. At the losing side the former international point guard Jae-Do Lee (180-1991) responded with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mobis Phoebus have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 19-14 record having three points less than leader Anyang. LG Sakers at the other side keep the second position with 13 games lost. Mobis Phoebus will play against bottom-ranked Seoul Thunders (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. LG Sakers will play against the league's leader Anyang (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games in round 25 were not that significant. Mobis Phoebus beat KoGas on the road 93-86. LG Sakers destroyed KCC Egis on its own court 93-74. Suwon KT unfortunately lost to Wonju DB in a road game 76-80. KCC Egis recorded a loss to KoGas at home 67-72.



Anyang - Seoul Thunders 91-66

KBL top team - Anyang (23-9) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Seoul Thunders (10-24) 91-66. Anyang looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Seoul Thunders' players. American Omari Spellman (207-1997, college: Villanova) nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and the former international forward Seonggon Moon (193-1993) accounted for 15 points and 7 rebounds. American center Darral Willis (205-1996, college: Wichita St.) came up with 22 points and center Weon-Seok Lee (203-2000) added 11 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Seoul Thunders in the defeat. No shocking result in a game when third ranked Mobis Phoebus (19-14) beat 9th ranked KoGas (13-18) in Inchon 93-86 on Sunday. Mobis Phoebus outrebounded KoGas 38-24 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Seong-Jin Shin (190-1999) nailed 24 points and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winning side and American forward Gaige Prim (203-1999, college: Missouri St.) accounted for 13 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Mobis Phoebus players scored in double figures. American power forward Devon Scott (206-1994, college: Dayton) came up with 24 points and 8 rebounds and the former international forward Dae-Sung Lee (192-1990, college: BYU-Hawaii) added 20 points respectively for KoGas in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mobis Phoebus have a solid series of three victories in a row. Very expected game when 6th ranked KCC Egis (15-18) were smashed by second ranked LG Sakers (20-13) in Changwon 93-74 on Sunday. LG Sakers outrebounded KCC Egis 39-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) nailed 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Dante Cunningham (203-1987, college: Villanova) accounted for 14 points and 11 rebounds. Five LG Sakers players scored in double figures. American forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (201-1995, college: Arizona) came up with 19 points and the former international forward Guna Ra (203-1989, college: Missouri) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for KCC Egis in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. LG Sakers have a solid series of four victories in a row. We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when eighth ranked Wonju DB (14-17) won against at home 7th ranked Suwon KT (14-18) 80-76 on Monday. The former international forward SangJae Kang (202-1994) nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and guard Ethan Albano (185-1996) accounted for 17 points and 6 assists. The former international center Yoongi Ha (203-1999) came up with 24 points and 6 rebounds and British V.Islands-Indonesian center Lester Prosper (210-1988, college: Old Westbury, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) added 13 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Suwon KT in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Wonju DB moved-up to seventh place.
